Data from the US Census Bureau showed that bilater

eral merchandise trade between the two countries has declined by more

than 15 percent since September 2018, when the second round of tariffs went into effect.

“This has also impacted global value chains in East Asia and other trading partners,” the report said.

“We’ve seen the trade tariffs that have been introduced on both sides have already been damaging trade,” said Dawn Holl

and, chief of the Global Economic Monitoring Branch in the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs.

Holland said the adverse effects of trade tensions on economic growth in China “has been partly offset by some stimulus measures”.

According to the report, growth in China is projected to moderate gradually from 6.6 percent in 2018 to 6.3 percent in 2019, and 6.2 percent in 2020.

Data cited from Zhaopin, an online recruitment platform

shows that college students slated to graduate in 2019 have higher expectations of working in these cities, than in cities like Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.

According to the platform, 44 percent of new graduates this year wish to find their jobs in new fir

st-tier cities, while only about 30 percent hope to work in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.

Yang Zheng, who graduated with a master’s degree from Fudan University in Shanghai in March, said th

at he received three offers from companies in the city, but finally chose a high-tech enterprise in neighboring Hangzhou.

“I’ve spent about seven years in Shanghai, it’s time to explore a new world,” he said, laughing. “The most importa

nt reason I chose Hangzhou is the city’s potential development in the high-tech industry, which can bring us more opportunities.”

China will take necessary measures, in response to foreign exchange market flu

He also stressed that authorities would crack down on illegal activities in foreign exchange trading.

“China has sufficient policy tools,” said Pan, who is also director of th

Besides, reindustrialization is not possible without rebuilding or strengthen

ing infrastructure facilities. And although the US leader has been claiming to implement a trillion-dollar infrastructure

plan-and even made it one of the pillars of his “Make America Great Again” campaign-not much has come of it.

Another major problem is that the return on equity in the infrastructure sector is a mere 3 percent w

hile that in the US capital market is about 12 percent. So how can the US attract more private cap

ital to the infrastructure sector without guaranteeing a return on equity equal to that in the capital market?

The keynote speech delivered by President Xi Jinping is ver

Diversified, harmonious and inclusive civilizations should be highlighted and they are good for sustainable development.

The conference offers an open platform for us to understand each other, and dialogues will help reduce many misunderstandings.

Asian countries need to reach a consensus by exchanging and mutual learning during this conference, and ba

sed on their histories and philosophies, they can have their own ways, or Asian styles, to solve problems.

I was born in a lucky generation, not in times of conflict or in times of war. Sometimes m

y generation may take peace for granted. But if we see the history, we cannot take anything for granted.

So how do we continue the age of peace? We might not be talking about

war. We might be talking about environmental challenges or terrorism.

This is not an issue that one country faces. We have to sit together, put these issues on the table and hopefully come to a consensus.
